Engineering Services

Engineering allows us to design, build and connect the world around us. We manage and maintain the natural and built environment. Therefore, spaces are productive, safe and enjoyable for the people who live and work there. At By Julian, we provide high-quality services across civil, structural and emergency engineering.

Civil Engineering

One of the main disciplines we perform work from is Civil Engineering.

We have a broad experience of groundworks and heavy structures. Groundworks includes the construction and installation of gravity pipework systems as well as the design of earth supporting structures and foundations. This means that we are qualified to understand and interact with a variety of challenges; we draw on our direct experience.

Our experience of heavy structures involves critical national infrastructure such as motorway viaducts and bridges. Julian has gained his experience whilst working for companies such as Pell Frischmann, Babtie, Jacobs, Faber Maunsell as well as Local Authorities. He is therefore conversant with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and has direct experience as a consultant to The Highways Agency on schemes such as the A1 upgrades from Darrington to Leeming and has been the Controlling Mind as the Client on such projects. He started his career designing major elements of the M6 New Thelwall Viaduct, 1991 to 1994.

Why should I engage EAT Ltd?

  • Our level of competence is above that of a Chartered Engineer.

  • We have the breadth and depth of experience to understand your challenges.

What do I get?

A breadth and depth of experience that is easy to access.

Structural Engineering

Structural engineering is a sub-discipline of Civil engineering.

In structural engineering, we focus on the design of a particular structure and how to ensure strength, stability and rigidity of said structure. To achieve this, we use applied laws of physics and empirical knowledge while also taking into consideration different materials and geometries.

Surveys, Reports, Advice, Design. Submissions for Building Control require that a person with the appropriate skill and experience has determined the ‘steel’ and will certificate a design.  We know that the ‘steel’ is a part of a system. We look at that system to ensure the best choice for your project.  We know that the reports we provide are needed by your insurer too and when you come to sell your property you will be glad you have a report to provide your purchaser.

We are expert in all building materials and forms of construction.

What do I get?

  • A signed and written report with photographs, signed by a fully qualified professional to give you the certificate your property needs.

  • We provide solutions.

How much does it cost?

  • Prices range from upwards of £225 depending on the complexity of property.

How long does it take?

We produce reports within 2 weeks and can provide fast turnaround where there are emergency needs and requirements such as insurance claims.

Why do I need a report?

You need a physical record and proof that correct procedures have been followed so you can, Sell the house, satisfy your insurer and satisfy your lender.

Can we recommend a builder?

Yes, we have many trade contacts as we are independent of those we recommend.

We came across Julian when we required a structural survey on a house purchase. From the get go, we knew we were in good hands, he carried out the survey, remained professional with a very good sense of humour and explained the survey in great detail to us. I would highly recommend Julian for any survey work as he is a very knowledgeable and experienced professional!

Emergency Engineering

Humanitarian Engineering requires a very different approach both in preparation and delivery. In the UK we have some cross-over from Local Authority Emergency Planners as they look at providing for the public during times of emergency here in the UK.

We use our experience of engaging with communities across the world and adapt the solutions according to the ‘local’ context. We have found that ‘dragging and dropping’ solutions from the 1980s into the 2000s simply does not work. This is especially true of the UK context where low frequency high impact events are little understanding with devastating consequences.

We have experience across Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Sri-Lanka. One size does not fit all; we teach and train.

Very helpful, went above and beyond what was needed for the job, providing advice and commentary on the state of the property and other little jobs that would need to be conducted.
